A2 is 2 Crazy 4 Words... Not

Friday night was pretty interesting.

A while back I had been contacted through Friendster by Ali Walsh, the sister of Caitlin, who I had been good friends with. Ali and I had talked on email about getting together to catch up, as I hadn't seen her in several years. Plans fell through for meeting up around Christmas time, but she was back in town at her parents this weekend so we were finally able to get together.
I met her in Ann Arbor, as her parents are in Dexter. Little did I know that there was some kind of concert at Hill Auditorium so the parking was freakin' insane, worse than normal. So it took me 15 minutes to find a parking spot finally going to the structure over the old National City, across from the Necto.
I met Ali at Expresso Royale, as Ali had recently quit her job at Starbucks, (or The Bux, as she called it) and vowed to never set foot in one again. We sat there and talked for I think about 3 hours, about her parents, and mine, and music and jobs and everything else. She seems like she's doing well, which is cool. We also discussed the "Hipster Handbook," the scarcity of vintage resale in Ann Arbor, where it would seemingly do well, and also a game her friend liked to play called, "Hipster or Hobo." I had a really good time catching up, and hopefully we'll be able to get together again to hang out.
Friendster is good for things.

The dangers of "next-blogging"

On a whim I decided to hit the "Next Blog" button to see what was out there. I was warned by this post on Anonymous Midwest Girl's blog, but I thought maybe there would be something interesting.

Instead, I came across this, an apparent search engine trap. Blah.

Oh well, I guess I'll just keep seeing if there's anything interesting out there. Hopefully I can avoid the 13-year-olds who think they're from "da hood."

Gee! Mail!

I have a gmail account now. I don't know what I'll do with it, although I have been getting pissed with hotmail recently due to the sporadic and erroneous way in which it interacts with certain web browsers. I might switch but my email inertia is such that it would be a total pain to have to change everything I'm subscribed to, to the new account... plus banking, credit cards, newsletters, eBay, forums, etc. Kawamoto's Second Law of Email: A person will stay at a email address unless acted upon by cancellation or excessive spam.

Scooby-dooby!

Yeah! My car is finally back. It only took a week and a half for a check to show up. I then had to layout another $227 on top of the deductable to cover what the insurance company didn't want to. I'm not sure if I'll go back to that dealership for service in the future. But at least my car is fixed, and I can get my pictures off my camera that was in there. And the salt. And my sushi calendar.

Perspective

I guess Aubrey's death has brought a lot of perspective to my current situation. I'm sad of course, but also glad that I got to reconnect with a lot of people I hadn't seen in long time. It also mad me appreciate how lucky I am to have such great friends. If I haven't said it in a while, I love you guys, and value and appreciate your friendship and company. OK, now ends the emotional part of the day.

Just remember, like Spock said, "I always have been and always will be, your friend."

Aubrey's Obituary in case any of you hadn't seen it.

What to say...

It really sucks when you get a phone call you don't expect, when you're waiting for one you do expect. I'm still waiting to hear from the dealership about my car, when I get a call from Tess. This is not good. She tells me Aubrey passed away on Tuesday.

Stunned disbelief.

This is a girl I used to date. I'm still not sure what to think. What's worse is I feel like I'm some sort of bad-luck charm, as she's actually the second girl who's died that I've dated.
Jessica. Take care of yourself. I don't want your death on my hands also.
I know it's not my fault, but it's just enough of a coincidence that it creeps me out.

I need to figure this out...

What I want to do on my blog is find a way to make a little "now playing" kind of sidebar. If I could also provide links to the iTunes Music Store that would also be neat. I'll have to do some searching on the web. I'm almost certain someone has coded such a thing, or least some sort of script. Yay, I love Applescripts... they do fun things.

Chris. This is the place for all things iTunes related... Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

Most useful for power users of iTunes. I use several of the scripts here to automate certain tasks on iTunes. One of my pet peeves is soundtracks and compilations not have the artist in the artist field. There are scripts to fix this kind of thing. Totally cool. Ok. maybe I should get back to work. Right.

Geeks everywhere crushed

So, apparently Gillian Anderson got married. So many X-Files fans must be bummed out, even when they had no chance of being with her, let alone even meeting her. Hmmm... was that too self-referential?
Also, her daughter is 10. The kid she had while on the show! 10! Holy crap, it's been a long time since X-Files was on the air.

When the lights go down in the city...

Stupid comments on Beckie's blog getting Journey stuck in my head. I tell you, I do a wicked Steve Perry impression. "Oh, Sheri..." Ah, well, better get to bed. Why must the internet suck my time so?

Chris is doing it, why not me...

Bluesday Moanin'

Well, there's really not much to report on. I still don't have my car back, although I hope the check from the insurance shows up at the dealership today. There's nothing happening in the post-Macworld lull for anything Apple related. Chris did get a new iBook G4. I'm jealous. I'm thinking I may upgrade my old G4 because, if I try to do too many things at once, it does bog down, especially trying to run iPhoto, iTunes, Safari, Fire, and Mail all at the same time. Plus, if I want to get all I can out of Garageband I need more speed. Then I can make stupid, derivative techno music, where it all goes dupa-dupa dupa-dupa.

Edit: Just wanted to include correction to previous post. Dan is correct, the game we played was "Simpsons Hit and Run" not "Road Rage." I was confuzelled. That's what I get for staying up until 4 in the morning playing video games.

Road rage is hard

Coronado and I are playing "Simpsons Road Rage" on his PS2. It's a bit challenging. Especially this stupid Apu vs. Cletus mission because it's hard to get him to drop the roadkill. And then sometimes they drop where it's inconvienent to pick up. But, looks like Chris just completed it. That's my exciting Saturday night.

On another note, I finally took apart my iBook to fix it. I managed to break one thing and another thing broke of it's own accord. I had to completely disassemble the motherboard out of it to get it soldered back together again. Hopefully it will work again. If not, I'll probably part it out on eBay or to a parts company that deals in Macs.

Well, whatever.

Wednesday Night Recapulet and Montagues

All I have to say about Lost is WTF! It was an awesome episode last night. No spoilers though, 'cause it's just so good you have to see it yourself. I will say that you will now understand why Boone and Shannon's relationship as brother and sister is so weird. And it calls into question some of the events on the island. Everything is not as it seems. J.J. Abrahms, you are a wily rascal.

Now, for Alias, I just wasn't really impressed with last night's episode. I did like the opening sequence in the Bahamas. Marshall rules! I guess I shouldn't talk too much more about the episode until I know if Dan had a chance to watch it. It seems like he's one of the few people who actually read this thing. Eh, whatever.

I also ended up watching Wifeswap last night. It had a single mom from Taylor swapping places with a mom from New Jersey. The Taylor mom's family was super Whisky-Tango. Her girls were such lazy, spoiled, selfish bitches. They must have spent summers on a tramp steamer with the kind of language they used. Even the pet parrot swore. Good ole' Taylor-tucky. I really should not watch reality tv.

Can't seem to get my mind off of you!

Yeah! The joy of "use it or lose it" vacation. I'm taking a vacation day today, because, well, there isn't any particular reason except I had to use the day and I like not working as much as possible. I had actually half-forgotten about my vacation day and was almost to work when I realized it. I turned around and came home and changed back into my pajamas. I was watching tv and then took a 3-hour nap just now. Totally awesome.

I forgot to mention before that Saturday night we went to see Catalog Only who totally rocked Emergenza. They are advancing to the next round in Emergenza, a sort of world-wide battle-of-the-bands. After that show we went to The Bronx bar for a couple beers. It was possibly the darkest bar I've ever been in, but it had 2 awesome jukeboxes. After that we went to The Clock restaurant in Hamtramck. There's not really much to tell about that. Except possibly you shouldn't go to Carbon, because there was a whole group of people who came into Clock after getting pepper sprayed at Carbon.

O.K. That is all for now. Whatever.

How I Spent my Friday Night

Well, as I had royally screwed up my Windoze PC in a vain attempt to get it to work with the new PVR card I had bought, I found out that my motherboard's chipset was the source of my problems and so I bought a new motherboard and installed it on Friday after work. I started about 8:30, and I think I had it back together by about 10, but I was trying to be careful. After that I went through the torturous process of reinstalling XP. Then I had to download and install SP2. After that I installed the PVR cards and Sage TV, I got everything mostly working. Due to poor design of the motherboard though, I couldn't get certain things the way I wanted. Anyway, it's doing it's thing and I can record TV again. This did take until 5 the next morning though. I still have a few more things to install and a couple parts to get. At least I didn't miss the new season of MI-5.

I *heart* Alias and The O.C.

Favorite line from The O.C. last night, "You smell like Marissa!" -Summer expressing surprise at Seth's drinking.

Favorite bit from Alias: when Marshall gets recruited to the new agency and sees Sloane and leans over to Sydney to ask her if she knows Sloane is there.

Mini-review of Alias

It just wouldn't be a season premiere of Alias without lingerie. Or at least so says the recaplet at TWOP according to Dan. I agree. Sydney looked hot, they dissed last season as "sucked" and generally did all the things that made the show good in season 1. Although the stealing of the sword kind of didn't make sense, but it did lead to some cool Kill Bill style swordplay. I'm bummed out that they ended up killing of Syd's mom though, and without her making a final appearance.

Grade: A-

And now The O.C.

I'm not going to grade the episode as a whole, as I think the bits should be graded individually.

Ickiness of Ryan/Lindsay romance-

Grade: C+

Seth Cohen trying to be a "Bad" boy-

Grade: F

Hilarity that ensued as a result of Seth's attempts at being "Bad"

Grade: A

Marissa trying to make everything about her and make us feel sorry for her-

Grade: D

Believability of Summer/Zack chemistry-

Grade: D-

Sandy's bagel "schmear aptitude"

Grade: A-

Wow, this takes me back

I found this again a while back, but just recently decided to share it.

Mike Kawamoto by Austin Shyu. It's riveting reading and truer than ever before. BTW, Austin is awesome and I still owe him big time for bailing me out when my car got messed up.

It has been passed...

Apparently someone has passed on Eye to me. I woke up Sunday feeling a little scratchy in the throat, but Monday morning was full-on sneezing, runny nose, coughing, headache, sinus pressure... the whole nine yards. So, today, I'm staying home sick. At least I'll be able to catch up on a bit more TV. Well, I think I'll head back to bed, this nighttime cold stuff is making me drowsy. Excellent. I curse them that gave me the Eye! Arrgghh!
